Skills4Life

Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) provides recreational outings and family mentoring in the Skills 4 Life program with hunting, fishing, golf, sporting events, family outings & vacations. The goal is to provide combat wounded military and their families with the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and thank them for their service with these opportunities. We want our wounded heroes enjoying the activities they did before their injuries.

Purple Heart Ranch is made up of two properties totaling almost 8,000 acres that is run and managed by MWSF. There is Purple Heart Ranch West and Purple Heart Ranch South and both are beautiful and pristine examples of their respective geographic habitats. Purple Heart Ranch’s goal is to grow trophy whitetails and uses the help of professional ranch and game managers, outfitters and biologists to attain that goal. We utilize food plots, windmills to maintain water sources and management strategies based on proven scientific studies to grow big deer in a fair chase, low fence setting. At the ranches, our guides like to implement several different hunting methods to take whitetail such as hunting from blinds, rattling, spot & stalk and calling depending on the hunter and the time of year. We encourage bowhunting and have the ranch set up to accommodate those who are experienced archers.

Purple Heart Ranch is open exclusively to combat wounded heroes and to Gold Star families (families of those Heroes who lost their lives defending this country). The ranch is also open to children of combat wounded heroes and those who have a parent currently deployed to a combat zone. Both the families of the wounded heroes and the parents of the children are encouraged to come and enjoy the experience with the hunters. There is fishing available at both properties and many other activities for the families. Both ranches are rich in history and are littered with Native American artifacts, especially arrow heads.

Purple Heart Ranch West is a 2700 acre property in West Texas near Sterling City, TX and is part of the historic Horwood Ranch. The property provides great habitat, beautiful scenery and is home to whitetail deer, quail, Rio Grande turkey, desert cottontail, coyotes, bobcats and the occasional mountain lion. There is a mix of West Texas ridges, plateaus and canyons that provide excellent views and sunsets.

Purple Heart Ranch South is a section of almost 5,200 acres that is part of Santa Cruz Ranch near Hondo, TX. This piece of Purple Heart Ranch is made possible by the donation and grants from the Stan and Gerry Sigman Foundation. This is classic South Texas brush country, with an abundance of water sources and streams and a wonderful mix of habitats ranging from mesquite thickets to thorny, rocky hillsides to shaded oak groves. It is home to big whitetail deer, Rio Grande turkeys, quail, dove, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, javelina and feral hogs/wild boar.
