Celebrating Family Bonds and First Hunts at the Skills4Life Father-Son/Daughter Hunt

Mertzon, Texas -Skills4Life (S4L) recently had the privilege of hosting its annual Father-Son/Daughter Hunt, a heartwarming event that celebrates the unique bond between parents and their children while providing a platform for youngsters to experience the exhilaration of their first deer harvest. The event took place from October 6th to 8th, 2023, at the Spike S Ranch near Mertzon, Texas.

This hunting event places the child at the center stage as the hunter, while parents serve as witnesses to their child's first deer harvest. The parents, rather than participating in the hunt, were paired with experienced guides who accompanied them throughout the weekend, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the event.

Accommodations at the ranch were designed to provide comfort and a sense of togetherness. Heroes and their children stayed in rooms equipped with bunk beds, accommodating up to eight attendees, fostering camaraderie and friendship among the participants.

This year's event was particularly meaningful as it marked a milestone with the inclusion of two daughters in the group, where these young huntresses displayed impressive skills and unwavering determination.

What made this year's Father-Son/Daughter Hunt a success was the fact that every child had the opportunity to harvest both a buck and a doe during the hunt. The achievement added to the unforgettable memories created over the weekend.

Lucas Braun, Program Coordinator at Military Warriors Support Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, "If I'm only able to do one hunt a year, hands down, this would be the only one I ever do. To see the children interact with their parents and the smiles and memories they make together isn't something you can explain; it is something you have to witness."

The Skills4Life program is dedicated to supporting these extraordinary moments that strengthen family bonds and create lifelong memories and extends its heartfelt gratitude to the attendees, sponsors, and volunteers who made this event possible. With great anticipation, Skills4Life looks forward to the next Father-Son/Daughter Hunt, continuing its mission to create meaningful experiences for hero-parent pairs and their children.
